The monkey at Sanctuary Ubud Monkey Forest of Padangtegal are commonly called long-tailed macaques. Their scientific name is Macaca fascicuiaris. On Bali, there are Balinese long-tailed macaque troops (populations) that live in areas where they have little to no contact with humans and troops that come into contact with humans on a regular basis.

Beside of monkey and forest, there are some temple inside of Sanctuary Ubud Monkey Forest. In western part is Dalem Temple (temple dedicated to Siwa Gods), in eastern is the cemetery and Merajapati Temple, this temple is adjacent to the cemetery. In this temple Hindus worship to the God (Hyang Widhi) in personification as Brahma Prajapati. The cemetery is used temporarily, while waiting for the day of the mass cremation which is held every 5 years. One small temple located at the river bank call Spring Water Temple use for purification ceremony during there temple anniversary at Dalem Temple.
From the most tourist area Kuta Beach, Legian Beach, Nusa Dua Beach and Sanur Beach to Ubud Monkey Forest will take about 1 – 1.30 hours drive by car. Entrance fee to visit Sanctuary Ubud Monkey Forest on Weekday for adult at IDR 80,000 per person and for children at IDR 60,000 per person. For Weekend cost for adult at IDR 100,000 per person and for children IDR 80,000 per person. The ticket can buy on spot on that day when you arrive at dance venue by cash in IDR (Indonesian Rupiah).
If you bring a bag (plastic or paper) or plastic bottle, is better for you to entrust and left at ticket counter.
In generally, monkeys will not come to you if you do not bring bananas or any other food.
To respect the natural behavior of the monkeys and avoiding any accident (since monkeys are wild animal, not pets and their behavior is unpredictable), please don’t make any physical contact or feed the monkey extra food from outside of the park.
To maintain the monkey’s health, please do not feed the monkeys by peanuts, biscuits, bread, or any other human snacks.
In order to conserve the monkeys and forests, we engage you to keep the forests, wildlife, and the environment in good manner.
This forest area is sanctified by the local people community. There are some parts of the area that prohibited for the public to see or visit. For example, the sacred area or temple. The temple area is only accessible for whom willing to pray and wear proper Balinese praying dress.
The size of Forest is around 12.5 hectares (30, 8 acres). There are about a thousands of monkey inside of the forest. It’s may take about a hour to explore the whole area.
